mita'áptit wax̣ kúyc, 39 - Beaded Earring + Medallion Necklace Set
This hand beaded 3-piece set is made up of two (2) earrings and a medallion necklace. The set features moose hide, glass cut seed beads, 24 karat gold plated beads, and fire-polished Czech glass beads. The moose hide background is hand-cured, tanned by a First Nations family in Canada.
The earring beadwork measures 1 3/4 inches in diameter. 18 karat gold plated hardware connects the beadwork to gold-plated, surgical steel hoops for sensitive ears. The hoops measure 24mm in diameter and come with a teardrop ornament attached to the back.
The medallion necklace measures 3 1/2 inches in diameter. 18 karat gold plated hardware connects the medallion to a 26 1/2 inch beaded necklace. Satin gold, nylon-covered stainless steel wire strings together a necklace of fire-polished Czech glass beads, 24 karat gold-plated beads, glass cut seed beads, 5mm tile beads, and white hairpipe bone beads.
Black niimíipuu (Nez Perce) artist Kellen Trenal beaded and assembled this set by hand. The artist honors the craftsmanship of the tanned moose hide by allowing it to speak just as much as the sections embellished with specialty bead embroidery. Purposeful placement of the beaded design gives equal value to all the materials showcased in these pieces.
