wax̣ 'uynéept, 37 - Beaded Medallion Necklace

This hand beaded medallion necklace measures 4 inches in diameter. The medallion features moose hide, 24 karat gold-plated glass seed/3mm beads, and fire-polished Czech glass beads. The moose hide background is hand-cured, tanned by a First Nations family in Canada.

Satin gold, nylon-covered stainless steel wire strings together a 25 inch necklace of fire-polished Czech glass beads, 24 karat gold-plated beads, 5mm brass beads, brass pipe beads, and tan hairpipe bone beads.

Black niimíipuu (Nez Perce) artist Kellen Trenal beaded and assembled this medallion by hand. The artist honors the craftsmanship of the tanned moose hide by allowing it to speak just as much as the section embellished with specialty bead embroidery. Purposeful placement of the beaded design gives equal value to all the materials showcased in this piece.
